Notes from Bill Clinton keynote at ACG LA Business Conference. Sept 18, 2013 @PE_Feeds
Clinton enters to standing ovation. Says "lets begin at the end" World is confusing, full of good news, and also bad news. Every day.
Clinton got right to the meat of today with Syria.
Clinton: Example: Syria just agreed to get rid of chemical weapons, which they previously denied having. Helped by Russia. That is good.
Clinton: But the bad about Syria, is they still have conventional weapons to kill rebels with. That is bad.
Next up: the US economy and healthcare issues.
ACG Clinton: US economy: the annual deficit has been cut in half. Good. But 90% of of gains still go to 10% of people. Bad.
ACG Clinton: US Healthcare. we wasted tons of money on Heatthcare; we spend 17.9% of GDP on healthcare, other countries max at 12%
Clinton then shared some of his "guiding principles."
Clinton on guiding principles of foundation: because the world is full of both good & bad, we need guiding principles to live by
Clinton: Principle #1: We live in an interdpendent world. We all need and depend on each other. It is the world w live in.
Clintion Principle #2: There is value to our differences, but also to our common humanity. If we only recognize differences, chaos results.
ON #2: The wisdom of crowds shows that, over time and broad issues, crowds will collectively make better decisions than lone geniuses.
Clinton Principle #3: thus cooperation to solve challenges works everywhere, but constant conflict only works in combat and politics
Clinton on #3: conflict in politics is rewarded. When people complain about Washington, I think: you sent those politicians there.
Clinton on #3: those politicians who cant get along, who voters hate, are doing what voters reward them (i.e. vote) for doing
